The Evil Dead (1981) - Sam Raimi

The Evil Dead is one of the most creative and fun horror movies, of all time. This is the movie that kicked off Sam Raimi's career and boosted the chin of Bruce Campbell. The movie was made with such passion, that you can really see it shine though. You can tell the actors and everyone else was having such a great time making it. Its the kind of expression and fun that is left out of sequels and other movies that are made down the line.  Horror icons like Steven King and Wes Craven are huge fans of the movie. Steven King called this movie "...the most ferociously original horror film...." I think that he was really onto something here. The movie pays tribute to Wes Craven with a poster for The Hills Have Eyes. Equally Wes Craven payed homage to The Evil Dead by playing the movie on televisions in Nightmare on Elm Street.  If you haven't seen this movie then I don't know why you are even reading my articles. Go do what you can to find this movie. F...

Terror Firmer (1999) - Lloyd Kaufman

So Lloyd Kaufman makes some of the trashiest movies, and he has been doing so for 30 plus years. From Toxic Avenger to this movie Terror Firmer, Lloyd has never altered his approach to making films. He even has a book All I Need To Know about Filmmaking I Learned from the Toxic Avenger. So what is so special about this movie? This movie seems to be the culmination of his life's work. The movie is loosely based on the before mentioned book. The movie is about a gender confused killer that is wreaking havoc on a movie that is in production by a blind director, played by Lloyd Kaufman himself. I believe that the movie pays homage to many films that Kaufman and Troma put out to this point. The movie is a Trash film, a Z-Movie if you will. It looks like the budget was no more than 5 bucks. That is the beauty of the movie, that is what makes this movie what it is. This movie is low budget, and by low budget I mean $500,000. That is low, really low. The movie is gory...

The Hunger (1983) - Tony Scott

Ok , so I just watched the Hunger from 1983. This was Tony Scott's first feature film, which you see with a multitude of jump shots and crazy angles. The movie stars  Susan Sarandon , David Bowie, and actually  Willem Dafoe  in a really small part . The movie is more of an erotic thriller than a horror movie, I didn't really see the scary parts.  The movie is about Vampires, well two Vampires in fact, who live this ritzy lifestyle in New York. For some reason that is not explained to the audience the female Vampire out lives her "mates" who die at a very quick rate. The film also focuses on a young doctor, played by Susan Sarandon. She quickly gets mixed up in a sort of lesbian love thing with the female vampire, see the movie to find out more.  The soundtrack to the movie is amazing, I really thought the music was key. The film was almost entirely in this sort of soft lighting that made me feel like I was in a David Bowie music...

Exorcist II: The Heretic (1977) - John Boorman

So I watched the Exorcist 2 on VHS. I really love the cover of the video and the creepieness of the box. That is about all that is creepy about this confusing fuck of a movie. I do like seeing all of the different exorcisms but I think that the movie is the dullest and most boring movies I have ever seen. I really liked the Exorcist and I wish that they never made any sequels. John Boorman directed Deliverance and you would think that he would of done this movie justice. Unfortunately he directed Beyond Rangoon as well. The movie expands more than it should and tries to relapse into the first movie but does it in a slow and off way. The first movie was so amazing in contrast, its like night and day. The first movie was long and drawn out in the best way possible, it drug you into the movie and set you up for amazing payoff. This is a different type of movie that would of done better in an hour and a half. If you haven't seen this movie the plot goes something like this... Rega...

Scream (1996) - Wes Craven

Scream will always hold a special place in my heart. On a rainy day in 1996, I went to the dollar theater and payed $1.00 to see Scream back to back with, The Pest, I think. Scream was, and is, a really fun movie to watch at a party or even just on your own. The movie is iconic with the 90's and I love it! Everyone in High School would ask "Do you like Scary Movies!" That was actually a period of time. Like Austin Powers and the "Yeah Baby" phase, America went through a "Do you like Scary Movies?" phase. I am also pretty sure that either you or someone that you know went as the killer from this movie for Halloween. With big name actors like Skeet Ulrich, Matthew Lillard, Neve Campbell, Courtney Cox, David Arquette, and Drew Barrymore. This movie was gold from frame one. The movie is about a small town called Woodsboro, which is being terrorized by a masked killer. The killer is focusing on young Sidney Prescott. A girl who's mother was mu...

Club Dread (2004) - Jay Chandrasekhar

I am a big fan of Super Troopers, I thought that it had to of been one of the funniest movies released that year. I was really excited when I heard that Broken Lizard would be working on a new movie, Club Dread. I was really disappointed when I saw this movie for the first time. Maybe I went into it expecting to see Super Troopers 2, what I got was a lame attempt at comedy! Well watching the movie a few years later I found that it was actually a pretty decent horror.  The movie looks like it parody's 90's slasher horror movies like I Know What You Did Last Summer. The movie also has some pretty decent humor and really funny characters. If you haven't seen the movie I suggest that you go out and rent it. The movie focus's on the staff of an island resort called Coconut Pete's. There is a killer who is picking off people one by one and it is up to the staff to stop them. The entire time that the killer is stalking and killing resort members, the pa...

The Crazies (2010) - Breck Eisner

A while ago, George Romero, of Night of the Living Dead fame directed a movie that I reviewed called "The Crazies." Well Breck Eisner, who directed the abortion of a movie Sahara, showed up and thought that he could take the reigns as director for this remake. The original movie was short on a lot of aspects, from the acting to the plot, George Romero couldn't deliver. Breck Eisner can't deliver either, even with some really awesome characters, the movie just migrates south. The movie is about a small town, in which a plane has crashed and is infecting the townsfolk. There are more details, but that is all that I am going to divulge. Oh and Timothy Olyphant is the hero sheriff of the movie. I really like this guy, the actor at least, he kills it in Go and he destroys it in The Girl Next Door. In this movie however the Sheriff is really the worst character leading friends and family into harms way. The best character is the Deputy, who is awesomely bad ass!...
