Scary Movie (2000) - Keenen Ivory Wayans

During the nineties, Keenan Ivory Wayans ran the parody comedy game. His hit television show In Living Color introduced key Wayans family members that have been a staple in his work for years. Namely, Shawn Wayans and Marlon Wayans. Both hilarious and both stars in the Keenan Ivory's Scream spoof Scary Movie.  Following the same narrative of Scream and I Know What You Did Last Summer. Teens are ending up murdered in a small California town. Cindy, Bobby, Shorty, Brenda, Ray, Buffy and Greg are all students together at B.A. Corpse High School, We join them just as they had learned that their friend was murdered and it might have something to do with the night that they hit and murdered some fisherman.   It's hilarious. Like the Animal House of horror. Scenes are memorable and quotable. It should have your sides splitting while simultaneously satisfying your horror thirst. It has so many callbacks to the genre, like our lead Cindy Campbell's name is a play on t

Shaun of the Dead (2004) - Edgar Wright

Edgar Wright is a great director. He is so fresh and he has a style that identifies with today's culture. With Shaun of the Dead, Wright tackles the Zombie genre. Or, sorry, the Zed Word genre. If you are not familiar with this then I pity you. Do me a favor and watch it. You will not be disappointed .  Shaun is a mild mannered store clerk that lives a monotonous life with his friend Ed and roommate Pete in London. His girlfriend just broke up with him and the moment he decides to get her back the Zed Apocalypse breaks out! Hilarity ensues as Shaun and his band of friends try to make their way to safety at the local pub.  Everything about this production is amazing. It's hilarious. The soundtrack is stellar. The way the movie is structured and laid out is fantastic. I cannot sing this movies praises enough. Everyone I know that has watched this movie has a favorite scene. If you haven't seen this movie, give it a watch and you'll have a favorite scen

The Ghost Walks (1934) - Frank R. Strayer

Predictable and over the top. It's another old dark house movie that throws the crowd for a loop with... gasp! Twists! Actually a ton of twists with a lot of shill screaming! That doesn't necessarily equal a thrilling feature that can keep you on the edge of your seat. The playwright Prescott Ames, his secretary, and Producer get into a car accident and need to find shelter for the night. They come upon Dr. Kent's house and he gladly takes them in. While at the house, Prescott Ames discovers his fiancee there already along with Terry Grey and his psychic sister Beatrice. The latter being treated by Doctor Kent for hysterics. However, something appears to be in the house with the group and it is killing people off left and right. Or is it all an elaborate hoax?   This movie blends right in with all of the other horror movies released in the twenties and thirties. The old dark house storyline is tried and true. At least to this point in time. I have to hand it to

Haunted Honeymoon (1986) - Gene Wilder

Haunted Honeymoon is a comedic look at those Vincent Price era Haunted House pictures of the late 50's. Directed by and starring Gene Wilder, this romp around the horror genre feels more like a Mel Brooks picture than any original piece. However, Wilder does pretty well with it. Gilda Radner and Dom Deluise do their best to put over some really hilarious scenes. Of course the film is not scary in any way, shape, or form. It is just a satire that meanders around the scene taking landmarks from here and there. It is quite charming.  This movie is set in the 1930's. It's lead by Larry Abbot (Wilder) and Vicky Pearle (Radner), two comedy radio stars in New York that just happen to be engaged. Decide to be married at Larry's childhood mansion. They also have to get some light electro-shock therapy done as well. You see, Larry suffers from panic attacks electro-shock therapy is the only solution. Why not right? Well, It turns out that the childhood mansion is really
