City of the Living Dead (1980) - Lucio Fulci

There was a string of horrible Italian splatter flicks that came out during the Grindhouse heyday of the 70's. Thanks to the likes of Dario Argento and Lucio Fulci putting their crazy, messed-up visions to celluloid. These were usually brought to you in their full gory glory, complete with buckets of blood. This movie is no exception.

This movie is nothing more than a perfect example of a schlock eighties zombies flick. A product of exporting their work out to Italy where unfortunately the overdubbing is too much at times. However, it does add some bit of nostalgia when you watch these. You know its not going to be perfect. It's all part of the package. Right?

A priest kills himself on consecrated ground awakening the dead. Now a journalist needs to get to the bottom of this disaster and hopefully save the day. Sounds like a pretty thin storyline? It is. Everything from the storyline to the acting is boring. Needless to say, it could be a lot better.

There are some really creative deaths and funny scenes. The movie is so splatter crazy that it actually works as a comedy. There is a scene where a lady throws up her insides, its really long and bloody. Like I said above the Zombies have superpowers. They can teleport, they have super strength, and they can kill you with their mind. They also have the power to fill a room with maggots. I really have a big problem with people overcrowding a simple Zombie movie with stupid, useless story line. I am going to knock the movie for having all of those problems. It's like giving a laser gun to a cockroach.

Director: Lucio Fulci
Country: Italy
Style: Giallo Zombie Horror

Did ya know...
The movie has a ton of titles including "The Gates Of Hell"
The movie was filmed in New York, NY
The film originally received an X rating.

I just coughed up a lung!

Jason Lives: Friday the 13th Part VI (1986) - Tom McLoughli

So for Friday the 13th, I have been advised, I need to watch a Friday the 13th movie. So I thought about it and agreed. I decided to celebrate this F13th movie by watching my personal favorite. That's right Friday the 13th: Jason Lives (Part VI). It is hard for me to really put to the review what my favorite things are in the movie. Or what makes this movie scary. I really just want to list everything that I think is awesome about this film. So for Friday the 13th, I submit to you my tiny review while i watch the film:

SPOILERS!!! does it matter really?
  • Parody Comedy of itself
  • The guy from Welcome Back Kotter
  • Frankenstein
  • The satire
  • The 2nd Best of the series and actually kind of being its own type of movie.
  • James Bond intro
  • "Your gonna be sorry if you dont shaddup!"
  • Highest body count until Jason X
  • Should of been in 3D
  • Its kinda like Saved by the Bell on Friday the 13th.
  • The sheriff is a great Mr. Belding
  • The entire story!
  • I think this is the first time Jason is supposed to be a Zombie
  • Tommy Jarvis being a bad ass Zach Morris
  • Did i mention the comedy!
  • Holy crap there is Screech, AC Slater, Kelly, Lisa
  • Oh there are children in the camp this time, its like the only one to do that since the first movie.
  • Alice Cooper did the soundtrack!
  • Fucking creative!
  • Pure Awesomeness...
Anyway that's all I am going to give you... its was a little much huhh... Well anyway I just tried it out. SO I think that the majority of the flaws in this movie are overshadowed by the parody factor. Interesting note, this is the only Jason movie to not have nudity. Although it does have a sex scene which is pretty hilarious.

This movie comes highly recommended to anyone looking for a great movie for Halloween parties or anything like that. I don't know why it isn't any more popular. For its type of film it is actually a really good movie. It is pure entertainment. So sit back relax and enjoy Friday the 13th: Jason Lives.

Did ya Know: Director Tom McLoughlin took home some props from the film, including Jason's tombstone - which sits outside his house, made to look like Jason is buried in his yard - and his casket, which sits in his garage. The DVD box set includes a scene in which he shows off these props at his home, and tells of how a city employee refused to enter his yard to read the meter because he thought a body was really buried there.

Shrooms (2007) - Paddy Breathnach

Shrooms is a movie about a group of Americans that come to Ireland to trip balls. Things go wrong when a girl in the group eats the dreaded Death Cap Mushroom. This is what the movie really centers around, especially when people start popping up dead around her. I think that this movie is unintentionally funny, it has some really laugh out loud parts.

One of the funniest parts has to do with a cow, you would have to see the movie to understand it. The movie is still pretty new and I don't want to spoil anything for you. I will how ever tell you that I actually enjoyed this movie from beginning to just before the end. There are a lot of people out there that think that the movie was ruined by the ending, yet I think that the movie overshadowed its ending. Even though the movie as a whole isn't that good.

The movie has a pretty decent amount of blood, and just the right amount of creepiness. I think that with the right writer and director this movie could of been amazing. Oh, and a better cast. If you are looking for a movie to watch with your friends or a girlfriend/boyfriend. I would recommend picking this one up. I am pretty sure that it will always be available on the rental wall.

I guess that the lesson that the movie tries to put across is, "Stay away from Psychedelics." I am going to go ahead and give Shrooms a 5 of 10. It was better than I expected, that is always a good sign.

Its a cool poster

  • Filmed in Ireland and Denmark
  • You have probably seen the DVD in stores for a while now
  • Think... High Tension

Crazy Fat Ethel 2 (1987) - Nick Millard

I like to go out and hit up garage sales early in the mornings on Saturdays. Usually you can find some really good stuff, other times you just look at piles of shit for 20 minuets, moving so slowly. Maybe that's just me though. One time I found a copy of Crazy Fat Ethel 2 on VHS, it came with Tron and a bootleg copy of Eraserhead. I called some friends and we all watched this movie Crazy Fat Ethel 2. Holy crap!

This movie is a roller-coaster ride of poop. From the director shooting on, what looked to be, the cheapest equipment ever. To their not being a shred of decent audio. To the amazingly terrible script. There is not one saving grace to the entire film. The movie is offensive and stupid all rolled up into a nice tiny ball of turd.

Now that I got that out of my system...

I could not believe what I was watching, Fatsplotiation! The tag line to the movie, which actually doubles as the plot, is "Never come between Ethel and a well-stocked refrigerator!!" That is it all in one sentence. This movie is about a large woman who kills anyone that gets between her and a Twinkie. Watching this movie I could only think of Al Bundy jokes, which is bad! The killings are done in a really strange and cheap fashion. The movie is overall the weirdest film I have ever seen.

I am torn so much watching this movie that I think I am going to give it a 0 of 10. I have no idea how I should judge this movie fairly. On one hand I really love the movie as itself, but on the other this is an abortion of a film. The movie is so hard to describe and rate, I guess i have to knock off points for using multiple shots from the first movie. Then again I have to give the movie points for its cult appeal.

Overall I will put this movie on the 1001 horror movies that you need to see before you die in one, list.

I definitely recommend seeing this movie in a group setting, not by yourself please.

I'm hungry

  • Wow okay so the movie was filmed in Monterey, CA that is where I live now and where I found the VHS.
  • The entire first half of the movie was made up of stuff from the original.
  • Also known as Criminally Insane 2
