The Abominable Dr. Phibes (1972) - Robert Fuest

Vincent Price is the Grandaddy of creepiness. His voice alone sends shivers down most peoples backs. The Abominable Dr. Phibes is one of his best works. Campy yet Creepy, this classic from 1972 is one of the greatest horror movies of all time and takes a place in the 1001 horror movies you need to see before you kick the bucket.

Vincent Price plays Dr. Phibes, a concert Organist. Who is in a terrible automobile accident with his wife. She is rushed to the hospital, where she goes into surgery to try to save her life. Unfortunately she dies on the operating table, this infuriates Phibes who himself was horribly disfigured in the same accident. Four years later and very crazy, Phibes decides to take his revenge by offing all of the doctors that couldn't save his wife. He decides to use the classic plagues of the bible as the theme for his killing. Let the fun begin.

Yes this film has many holes and, even though in its day it was considered to be tremendous film making. By today's standards it has become a very campy film. Bats hanging from fishing line, and a man being killed by a handful of rats in an airplane are just some of the funniest moments in this Cult Classic. I would have to give Dr. Phibes a 7/10 on the Horror scale. Dr. Phibes is a great and wonderful horror film and it is personally one of my favorites. I definitely recommend this to anyone.
